Also hold and clarify if the patient missed multiple doses—do not restart full dose without prescriber/pharmacy guidance.

Can bisoprolol be stopped suddenly?

No. Prescribing information advises tapering over about one week with monitoring. Abrupt cessation in coronary artery disease can worsen angina or cause myocardial infarction or ventricular arrhythmias—even patients treated only for hypertension may need gradual withdrawal.

What adverse effects matter most with bisoprolol?

Bradycardia, hypotension, fatigue, dizziness, heart block, bronchospasm in reactive airways, and masked hypoglycemia symptoms in diabetes are the highest-impact effects for bedside nurses.

Is there an antidote for bisoprolol overdose?

There is no single specific antidote in the reviewed prescribing information. Management is supportive: IV atropine, isoproterenol or pacing for bradycardia or heart block, vasopressors and glucagon for hypotension, bronchodilators for bronchospasm, and IV glucose for hypoglycemia. Limited data suggest bisoprolol is not dialyzable. Contact local poison control or medical toxicology per facility protocol.
