What medicines should be reviewed before VWF testing?

Review aspirin, other antiplatelet agents, NSAIDs, anticoagulants, hormonal therapy, and recent desmopressin or VWF-containing products. Document medicines on the requisition; do not stop prescribed therapy without prescriber or haematology authorization.

When should nurses escalate before VWF results return?

Escalate according to facility policy for active mucosal bleeding, postpartum haemorrhage, head injury, haemodynamic change, or scheduled invasive procedures without a haemostasis plan when VWD is suspected — pending laboratory results do not delay treatment of significant bleeding.
