What Is Arm Pain?
Arm pain is discomfort, aching, tightness, or sharp pain perceived in the shoulder girdle, upper arm, elbow, forearm, or hand. It may follow trauma, overuse, compression of nerves, inflammation of tendons or bursae, or reflect referred pain from the neck, chest, or upper abdomen.
Because the arm is a common site for somatic referral, nurses keep cardiac and neurologic emergencies in parallel with musculoskeletal causes.
